Financial Peace University
Financial Peace University is a life-changing program that teaches people how to make the right decisions with their money. They will be empowered with the practical skills and confidence needed to achieve their financial goals and experience true financial peace!
Single Parenting That Works: A Single Parent Support Group
No one needs to tell you that single parenting is tough. After all, you’re right in the trenches. The reality is that there are currently 12 million single-parent families in the United States. What this means is that you are not alone. Single Parenting That Works is an opportunity for you to join together with other single parents to talk about both the joys and frustrations of being a single parent. It is also a time to get some practical insights on how to help your family thrive throughout these busy years.
First Rate Readers
First Rate Readers is a tutoring program aimed at improving the reading skills of elementary age students. First Rate Readers is a one-on-one tutoring program. Children will work with the same tutor each week throughout the 13 week semester. Depending on the age and reading level of the student, the lessons will include an emphasis on the alphabet, phonics, high-frequency words, fluency and comprehension. Free transportation is available if needed.
Math Whiz Kids
Math Whiz Kids is a tutoring program aimed at improving the math skills of elementary age students. Math Whiz Kids is a one-on-one tutoring program. Children will work with the same tutor each week throughout the 13 week semester. The lessons will be based on a child’s math level and their current math curriculum. Free transportation is available if needed.
GriefShare: A Grief Support Group
It may be hard to feel optimistic about the future for someone who has lost a loved one. That’s the reason for GriefShare, a special seminar and support group for people grieving the loss of someone close. Each GriefShare session includes a video seminar and group discussion. The videos feature top experts on grief recovery and real-life stories of people who have experienced losses like yours. During the small group discussion time, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with others who have experienced a recent loss.
Beginner’s Piano Lessons
Beginner’s Piano Lessons are an opportunity for children and youth to gain a foundational knowledge of playing the piano. Although the lessons are free, students will be expected to purchase music. In addition, they will be required to have regular access to a piano or full-sized keyboard for practice. The lessons will culminate in a recital at the end of the semester. Classes will be taught by members of Calvary Baptist Church who are accomplished musicians.
FitTogether: A Women’s Fitness Group
Looking for an opportunity to get in shape? Need a little support and encouragement to do so? FitTogether is an opportunity for you to join together with other women on the road to a healthy lifestyle. The sessions will include aerobic instruction as well as an opportunity to talk about the struggles of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Whether you are a beginner to the fitness world or you just need some help to get back into the habit, FitTogether is for you.
ESL (English as a Second Language)
English as a Second Language is a program for non-native English speakers in our community. The goal of this program is to assist non-native English speakers in the very practical need of communicating! The program focuses on conversational English; however, reading and writing in English are also covered. We do our best to match each student’s skill level to one of several levels of classes from beginners to advanced English speakers.
